SKETCH UP
This master's thesis researched the symbiosis of culture and architecture in affordable housing. It was noted that historically architecture has been marked by opulent structures such as castles, cathedrals and mansions while housing for people with lower income has always seen of secondary importance for society.
Looking at the local history and culture, the project designed as a case study for the research an affordable housing development for a fishing village in Brazil. It focused in creating something which would be sensitive to the local culture by using modern design techniques to maximise comfort and sustainability while maintaining it affordable. It was designed so that the community was able to build it and maintain it.
